Smitham Nursery

Our Curriculum
Our child-centred Early Years curriculum is inspired by elements of the Reggio Emilia approach and fully aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. This ensures children develop strong foundations that support their learning and development as they progress through their educational journey.
We believe children are capable, curious learners who learn best when their interests are recognised and valued. By carefully observing and following each child’s interests, our practitioners plan meaningful and engaging learning experiences that support creativity, independence and critical thinking.
The EYFS framework covers seven key areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Who We Are
At Smitham Nursery, we provide a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, and nurtured. We believe that all children are unique and deserve to be supported as individuals. Our caring and experienced team are committed to creating a happy setting where children feel confident to explore, play, and learn.
We recognise that children develop at their own pace and aim to offer equal opportunities for all, taking into account each child’s individual needs, abilities, language, culture and background.

Parent Partnership
Strong partnerships with families are at the heart of our nursery. We work closely with parents and carers to create a supportive community and a strong sense of belonging for every child.
Parents receive a weekly newsletter sharing highlights of the children’s learning and activities, along with information about what they will be exploring next. Families are also invited to take part in reading sessions and a range of activities throughout the year, allowing parents to share in and celebrate their child’s learning journey.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We are committed to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities, and work in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need.
We recognise that each child progresses at their own pace and provide a nurturing environment that supports development across all areas of learning, enabling every child to reach their full potential.
Please note: Whilst we are part of Smitham Primary and Nursery School, attending our nursery does not guarantee your child a place in reception.
